10-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Jigawa Pond as NSCDC Recovers Corpse of Abandoned Baby

A 10-year-old boy drowned in the Buji local government area of ​​Jigawa on Saturday.

This was confirmed on Sunday in Dutse by the spokesman for the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa, Adamu Shehu.

He told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) that the boy went swimming in a pond in Lelen Kudu village with his friends when he drowned.

“His body was found two hours after he drowned and a doctor pronounced him dead,” Shehu said.

The body was immediately handed over to the parents, he said, warning parents to warn their children not to swim in flooded ponds and rivers.

Mr. Shehu also told NAN that the NSCDC recovered the body of a girl abandoned on the side of a road in the Hadejia local government area of ​​the state.

He said residents discovered the body on Sunday in Kandahar Quarters.

NSCDC officers took the baby to Hadejia General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death, he said, adding that the body was handed over to the ward chief of the area, Malam Afenza, for burial.

Mr. Shehu told NAN that the NSCDC would further investigate the incident to ensure that the culprits were brought to justice.
