2023: Mammam Daura's comments are not Buhari's position - Presidency
Mamman Daura and President Muhammadu Buhari

The Presidency said last night that comments on the interview by Mallam Mamman Daura, The nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari of the BBC Hausa Service was a personal opinion and does not in any way reflect the opinion of the President or his administration.

The Presidency further said that after 80 years and having served as editor and managing director of one of the country’s most influential newspapers, the new Nigerian, Mallam Mamman does not need anyone’s permission or permission to exercise this right as he guarantees the Constitution.

In a statement issued by the Chief Special Assistant to the President of Media and Advertising Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja, the Presidency stated that, in an attempt to translate the interview given in Hausa into English, the context was confused and new meanings were introduced and / or were not properly articulated.
The statement said: “We have received numerous requests for comment on the interview given by Malam Mamman Daura, From President Muhammadu Buhari nephew of the BBC Hausa Service.

“It is important that we declare from the beginning that, as mentioned by the interviewee, the opinions expressed were personal to him and did not reflect, in any way, that of the president or his administration.

“At 80 years old, and having served as the editor and managing director of one of this country’s most influential newspapers, the new Nigerian certainly qualifies Mallam Mamman as an elderly statesman with a national duty to uphold the prospects and spread them as guaranteed by our constitution and land laws. You do not need anyone’s permission or authorization to exercise this right.

“In an attempt to distribute the content of the interview to a wider audience, the English translation clearly did not do the interview justice, which was granted in Hausa, and as a result, the context was mixed and new meanings were introduced and / or not well articulated.

“The topics discussed during the interview focused on issues about how the country could lead to an appropriate process of political dialogue, leading to an evaluation, evaluation and a democratic outcome that serves the best interest of the average Nigerian, regardless of their origin. .

“These problems remain at the heart of our young and evolving democracy, and as a veteran journalist, academic, and statesman, Mallam Mamman has seen enough to add his voice to that of many other participants.”

Mallam Mammam Daura said in the interview that “merit and competence should be the basis of who becomes the next President of Nigeria and not where the person comes from.”
