The Abia state government has expressed sadness at the report of an attack on travelers by thugs operating along Ihube, Okigwe LGA of Imo state.
It was learned that some students from the Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu, were attacked by thugs as they returned from a religious program on Saturday in the state of Imo.
A state government statement also confirmed the unfortunate loss of a teacher Ede Donald and said three students were injured during the attack.
Abia State Information Commissioner John Okiyi Kalu, while reacting to the incident, stated that the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, had directed the State Police Commissioner, Ms. Janet Agbede, to contact her counterpart in the state of Imo to quickly arrest the thugs and bring them to justice.
Kalu also said that the three students who were injured in the attack were treated and released, while the parents of teacher Ede Donald were contacted.
“While we sympathize with the parents of the deceased, the students, the staff, and the leadership of the Academia Integral Marista, Uturu, for this unfortunate incident in our neighboring state, we fully condemn the intent of the agents of the political actors. opposition party in our state whose actions in commerce are spreading false news to diminish the state. “

But Kalu said that the circulating report sponsored by inconceivable individuals is not only false but also perverse.
According to him, the report is a creation of the evil minds of those who are willing to do anything in pursuit of their selfish goals against the general interests of the state.
“The management of Abia State University, including the vice-chancellor, Professor Maxwell Ogbulu, has confirmed that yesterday no student of the institution was abducted in the face of false reports obviously sponsored by these elements.
“However, we will continue to update Abians on issues affecting the state and its people with sincerity of purpose.”
