nollywood actress Omowumi Dada is the latest addition to the University of Michigan’s Global Artist in Residence 2023 program.
The program is led by the University’s Center for African Studies (ASC) and the Department of African American and African Studies (DAAS).
The Global Artist in Residence program was established through a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education and was administered by ASC and in collaboration with DAAS.
In the program, the actress will work with DAAS language instructors to develop audiovisual materials for teaching African languages and interact with the broader University of Michigan (UM) campus community.
Additionally, you will interact with students and teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools in southeastern Michigan.
He will also present on Nollywood and African cinema at events organized in partnership with various UM school departments and local organizations while educating the next generation about Nigerian culture.
Speaking on the programme, ASC Director, Omolade Adunbi, Professor, described Mrs. Dada as a phenomenal actress whose presence in the film industry in Nigeria and Africa has helped usher in a new style in the way we understand Nollywood and cinema on the continent.
“Visiting our classrooms to share your wealth of experience with our students will make Africa and the continent’s rich tradition and Nigeria’s thriving film industry more visible on our campus,” he said.

Omowumi Dada
Mrs. Dada, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos, has been gracing screens and stages for almost ten years.
The award-winning Nollywood actress, presenter and model has also become a global ambassador for the growing film industry in her home country of Nigeria, appearing in many box office films, Netflix and Amazon Prime productions.
She is best known for her roles as ‘Folake’ in the popular M-Net television series Jemeji and ‘Linda’ in the Netflix original film Òlòtūré.
Ms Dada was also in the film ‘Eleshin Oba’, an adaptation of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman, which was nominated for a top prize at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, where Dada was invited as a special guest.
The film ‘Ayinla’, in which he played a lead role, will be screened for University students and audiences in Southeast Michigan at the State Theater on November 9.
