THE RED is among a list of three upcoming major films in production at Bird Guild Pictures, the first Hollywood studio in all of West Africa. Based in Nigeria and the UK.
The studio has made waves with its upcoming titles, marking its debut in the main sphere of the film. These include the big-budget fantasy epic All is Calm Now (nicknamed a Wakanda origin story set in the real-life city of Ancient Benin), and the long-awaited musical Noir in 3 Moods by L. S. Zeickner.
Africa is largely underrepresented by Hollywood in the apocalypse films– Maybe the fictional days of the end of the world won’t reach the continent, or the filmmakers simply see Africans as lacking the ability to survive, but this film can change that.
The Red is rumored to be not an average zombie movie, described as a superhero origin story set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse. The production represents West Africa’s entry into mainstream cinema with a cast of celebrities yet to be revealed.
Partly inspired by the coronavirus pandemic, the announcement comes at a time when cinemas around the world have begun reopening their doors to a tentative audience.
With its release slated for early 2021, the film is definitely on the blockbuster chart that is likely to draw audiences from around the world outside their homes and return to theaters.
