The Lagos state government announced in Ikeja on Monday that all schools, including kindergartens, kindergartens and nurseries, can reopen freely from October 19.

Schools in the state were closed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in March, but the staggered resumption began with final classes at high schools in August.

Education Commissioner Ms Folasade Adefisayo said the full resumption of schools marked the beginning of the 2020/2021 academic session.

He said this decision was made after careful deliberation and consultation with relevant stakeholders, including security professionals and early childhood education providers.

Ms. Adefisayo advised that all public and private schools put safety first by adhering to safety protocols and COVID-19 hygiene guidelines as directed by the state government.

He said the Office of Education Quality Assurance would continue to monitor and evaluate the readiness of schools to ensure “satisfactory” compliance.
