The Congress of All Progressives (APC) has alleged that a free medical extension organized by the wife of its candidate for governor, Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu, was interrupted by order of the first lady of the state of Edo, Ms. Betsy Obaseki, an order which he said was carried out. out for the police.
The party said the medical outreach was to provide free health screenings and other medical services to people, especially the vulnerable who have not had access to health care for years.
According to a statement released by Edo APC Campaign Council Chairman John Mayaki, the first lady, Ms Obaseki, was disgusted by the complete “overshadowing and neglect of her event by the people who packed the free medical outreach .
“By ordering the police to close the free medical outreach, Ms. Betsy Obaseki claimed unconstitutional powers and sadly displayed the poor attributes, including cruelty, bigotry, and insensitivity to the plight of the people who earned her. Obaseki’s administration the infamy of being one of the worst seen in the state of Edo.
“The cruelty and callousness is further magnified by the fact that Ms. Betsy Obaseki ordered the closure because she felt slighted that her political event in the area was completely overshadowed by the medical reach as the people, men, women and Elders, as expected, chose to tend to their health rather than attend a political show of vanity that has no value to them.
“We condemn the actions of Ms Betsy Obaseki in the strongest terms and urge the Police Commissioner to control his men so that they resist such cruel tasks and insist on the ethics of the profession, no matter who asks. “.
But in a reaction from Ms. Obaseki’s press secretary, Mr. Peter Okonkwo, he said that the first lady does not lead the police force in the state nor is she the director of state security.
In his words; “She does not lead the Police and that is why this accusation is totally frivolous. The APC is intimidated by the massive support of the Esan people for the PDP government and their determination to return Governor Obaseki for a second term, so now they are making excuses for not continuing their campaign. ” He affirmed.
