Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday at the Presidential Village, Abuja, hosted Governors Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa and Simon Lalong of Plateau in an attempt to unite members of the Congress of All Progressives (APC) in the states of Imo, Ogun and Or me.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that APC recently inaugurated a five-member reconciliation committee, chaired by Badaru, to reconcile aggrieved party members in Imo and Ogun states.

Other members of the committee are Governors Kayode Fayemi from Ekiti State, Abdullahi Sule from Nasarawa State and Inuwa Yahaya from Gombe State.

Badaru spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with the vice president.

“I met with the vice president as party leader to discuss the assignment that the party has given me to see what is the best way to unite and strengthen the party in Imo, Ogun and Oyo.

“I briefed him on what we’ve done so far and he gave us some suggestions on how to do the job really well.

“On top of that, today I briefed you on the zero oil committee; We are meeting today and we are charting our progress and a new agenda for the development of non-oil exports.

“It’s just to make sure the party is strong and back and if there are ripples between the party members; bring them together and make sure we have a strong and powerful party, “he said.

For his part, Lalong said the meeting with the vice president was a continuation of the committee’s task of reconciling the parties.

According to the governor, the committee has begun reconciliation work in the states of Imo, Ogun and Oyo, but input from the vice president is needed.

“We need information from him so that he can also help us reconcile the parties; that’s why we came here to consult it.

“As a high-ranking party man, he can always give advice; He gave his own advice on how to do it because he is very interested in reconciliation within the party; to guide us.

“So we have followed the advice and we are going back; Especially, one of the states is your state; he is from Ogun.

“And part of the reconciliation, he is also Ogun; you cannot reconcile without consulting him; know everyone who is there; knows part of the problems that exist; therefore, you can always give us advice on how to do it, “he said.

Lalong said that, as Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, consultations were under way to resolve the South Kaduna crisis.

He said that he had issued a statement regarding the crisis condemning the crisis and also calling for calm and a proper investigation.

“What happened in southern Kaduna also happened before in Plateau state.

“Besides that, on my own, I had a meeting with some people from southern Kaduna and I went back to the governor.

“Two days ago I was in Kaduna to inform the governor that we are going to have meetings; that we will help you.

“After the consultations, we will still come back and sit down with the governor because we must see the end of this crisis,” said (NAN).
