The Court of Appeal overturned a ruling by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State, which ordered the holding of new primaries by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The Ibadan division of the appeals court issued the ruling on Monday.
PREMIUM TIMES had reported that High Court Judge OO Oguntoyin on September 27 ordered the PDP State Executive Committee to hold new primary elections within 14 days.
But while passing judgment on an appeal brought by the PDP, Appeals Court Judge Folasade Ojo ruled that the lower court erred in its judgment as only the PDP’s National Labor Committee (NWC) has the power to hold primaries. .
The PDP in Ogun is divided into three factions with three different candidates claiming to be the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
However, the party headquarters in Abuja recognizes Ladi Adebutu as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
