The Governors’ Forum of the Popular Democratic Party has congratulated Governor Duoye Diri of the state of Bayelsa on the ruling of the Court of Appeal in his favor.
The appeal court overturned the ruling of the Bayelsa State Electoral Court that annulled his election.
The chair of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, congratulated Diri in a statement issued by the Forum’s Director General, C.I.D. Maduabum, in Abuja on Friday.
Tambuwal said the news of the appeals court’s victory was not a surprise.
He said it was obvious that God’s hand was on the throne regarding Diri’s leadership in the Bayelsa state.
“This current affirmation of his mandate, the necessary support, prayers and loyalty of the people of Bayelsa opens the way for him to establish himself in the enormous task of taking the state to greater heights without further distractions,” he said.
Tambuwal appealed to the Nigerian Advanced Democratic Party (ANDP) and “the invisible hands that support them”, to realize that there must be an end to the litigation.
“It is time to allow the Governor of Bayelsa to move the state forward by delivering the good governance that the people of Bayelsa yearn for and deserve.
“We see this victory as a testament to the valiant efforts that the governor has already made since he took office a few months ago,” said Tambuwal.
He said it was now up to Diri to reciprocate the love of the people with the determination to continue to do more to deliver democratic dividends in Bayelsa state.
The forum president said that the people of Bayelsa had not only placed their hopes on him, but had also given him their full trust and unconditional loyalty.
“We are confident that he will continue to rise to the occasion in the tradition of the PDP governors,” he said.
Tambuwal assured Diri that the PDP governors and the party would continue to support him to succeed.
