Apple has secured a deal for Hollywood veteran Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film, Killers of the Flower Moon, US media reported Wednesday, citing sources.
Killers of the Flower Moon will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. It is the second major movie Apple has acquired after Greyhound, starring Tom Hanks, last year.
The film will be labeled an Apple Original Movie, and ViacomCBS Paramount Pictures will distribute it in movie theaters worldwide, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Deadline.
Apple beat rivals like Netflix who were also interested in producing the movie, the WSJ reported.
Apple declined to comment. ViacomCBS was not immediately available for comment.
Killers of the Flower Moon is an adaptation of David Grann’s nonfiction book of the same name. The book is based on an FBI investigation into the Native American Osages murders during the 1920s.
Scorsese’s latest film, The Irishman, premiered on Netflix last year and helped the company grow its paid subscribers in the fourth quarter.
