Gunmen kidnapped four Ikare-Akoko chiefs along the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo state on Thursday.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police spokesman who confirmed the incident, said the chiefs were returning from Akure when they were attacked by assailants.
“Police received a distress call at around 6:30 pm on August 4 that gunmen fired on a Toyota Corolla car as it was moving around Ago Yeye, on Owo/Ikare Road,” Odunlami said in a statement on Monday. Friday.
“A bullet hit the driver in the head and the vehicle stopped, the other occupants, about four (identities unknown), were dragged into the bushes while the driver was abandoned.
“Police recovered the vehicle while the driver was taken to hospital where he is currently in a stable condition,” Ms Odunlami added.
The police spokesman also said that policemen, local hunters and vigilantes in the area were combing the mountain to rescue the victims and arrest the aggressors. (YAYA)
