Diego Costa has reached an agreement with his club, Atlético de Madrid, to terminate the rest of his contract, putting him on the list of free transfers when the window opens in January.
Daily mail reports that after falling into Diego Simeone’s pecking order, Costa is understood to have ordered Atlético to break his contract, which had only six months to run, with the forward earning £ 270,000 a week.
The 32-year-old has struggled for playing time in his second period at the club, not thanks to recurring injuries.
Furthermore, the competition with Joao Félix and Luis Suárez compounded his problems even when in shape, as he only managed two goals in his seven games this season, his most recent off the bench in Elche in a LaLiga match before Christmas.
Costa rejoined Atlético for the second time from Chelsea for £ 54m during the 2017-18 season.
