Atlético de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is heading to London to seal a transfer to Premier League Arsenal, according to reports.
The defensive midfielder passed through the Madrid quarry, before making his senior debut in 2015.
Since then, he has played 188 games with them in all competitions, the Ghanaian being a mainstay of Diego Simeone’s team last season, having participated in 35 La Liga games.
Arsenal have been strongly linked to the Atlético player, who has a buyout clause of around £ 45 million (€ 50 million), this summer, but the Gunners have yet to secure his services.
However, a report by David Ornstein in The Athletic claimed that Arsenal were prepared to comply with their release clause. And now journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Partey is “flying to London” to complete a move towards the Gunners.
He added that the “Atlético de Madrid board of directors received the notification 1 hour ago from Arsenal” for Partey.
Arsenal are “ready to activate the buyout clause” and then it will be a “race against time” to seal the move with Lucas Torreira going the other way on loan.
