Gunmen suspected of being bandits blocked two main roads in Sokoto on Sunday, killing two people and kidnapping more than 100 travelers in two separate attacks.
Newslodge reported that the gunmen invaded some major highways in the state, including the Sokoto-Gusau highway, where at least 60 road users were transferred to an unknown destination on Sunday.
The bandits also blocked the Wurno-Goronyo highway where two people were killed and also kidnapped an unknown number of others.
Five travelers kidnapped in separate incidents in Osun Sokoto Mass Transit general manager Yahuza Abubakar Chika, who raised the alarm on Sunday night, said one of its buses carrying passengers was also affected.
“The bus driver and another passenger escaped unharmed, but the bandits took the rest of the passengers to the bush,” he said.
Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sanusi Abubakar could not be reached at press time.
