Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has extended the Olive Branch to the oppositions in the state to join him in moving the state forward.
The governor spoke in Lokoja on Wednesday at the victory celebration organized to receive him from Abuja in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling affirming his victory in the November 16, 2019, governor elections.
Speaking at the event held at the Government House, Lokoja Bello said that with the last point of questioning her election, it is necessary to think of a “One Kogi” that transcends beyond political and ethnic affiliations.
He said, “I am filled with joy and equally aware of the enormity of leadership challenges that await us from the good people of Kogi State and Almighty God.
“This victory is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. The people of Kogi State have spoken loud and clear during their vote.
“Our brothers and sisters from the opposition parties decided to seek clarification by legal means before the electoral petition court, the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of our land, but to God be the glory that we have been vindicated and the Apex court has declared as the real winner of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Kogi state.
“I thank almighty God, I thank the good people of Kogi State and I thank our political party APC. I also thank Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, our party leader and other leaders at the various levels of national, state and local government for giving us the opportunity to serve the state of Kogi in this period of time.
“The responsibility entrusted to us is enormous and we will take it seriously the responsibility it deserves.
“We are not unaware that this victory is a test case and a stepping stone and is a test of our leadership quality.
“Nigeria is led today by President Muhammadu Buhari and I know that he is preparing people like us to take leadership positions, the President is preparing us so that we can take responsibility and accept trust and never betray that trust.
“By God’s special grace, we will in no way betray the trust that the Kogi people have placed in us. We will lead with the greatest fear of God putting you first before any other interest, Kogi first before any other interest.
“I will do it among all the other achievements that we have achieved modestly during our first term and the achievements that we will record in the second term.
“I am taking this opportunity to emphasize the unity and unity of our beloved state. We have demonstrated unity of purpose and will continue to do so in the interests of the Kogi State.
“We must unite including those who are in the other political parties. I urge you that if you have the interest of the state at heart, you must come and join us in serving our people to the best of our ability and I am optimistic that after our tenure, the people of Kogi State will appreciate our effort. . “
