The Joint Enrollment and Admissions Board (JAMB) has denounced the fraudulent activities of internet cafes and tutoring center operators that specialize in misleading candidates, using the board’s name and badge.
The examination board in a statement from its Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said that criminal elements mislead students under the pretext of registering them for the Unified Tertiary Enrollment Exam (UTME) 2021/22 and the application Direct Entry (DE).
“It is a crime for one to use the name and logo of the examining body when not authorized by the Board to do so for any reason,” warned Dr. Fabián.
JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, according to Dr. Fabian, revealed the latest trend of crime centers in Ilorin, Kwara state, while intimidating security officers about the new trend.
Oloyede had turned over some suspicious Internet cafe and tutoring center operators to security officers for investigation and prosecution on Friday.
He also warned that the examination board would harshly attack platforms that use such antics to scam candidates.
It alleged that these platforms are used as incubators to prepare test violators, who also use the logo and name of the board to commit negligence.
“Anyone who is not licensed by the board to register candidates and who prints billboards for board services would be arrested and prosecuted, Oloyede warned.
The Registrar also hinted that the examining board has concluded plans to embark on monitoring the centers together with security officers to prevent the activities of such platforms prior to the exam.
