President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mohammed Bello as president of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
He wrote to the Senate requesting confirmation of Bello’s appointment.
The president’s request was read out by Senate President Ahmad Lawan at the start of Wednesday’s plenary session.
The letter, he said, is in accordance with the provisions of Section 112(1) of the 1999 Constitution.
Bello is expected to replace Elias Mbam, who was re-elected in 2016 but not confirmed or sworn in until 2019.

It will be examined by the corresponding Senate committee for possible confirmation.
The RMAFC has been tasked with providing the nation with a new revenue formula, which is constitutionally supposed to be reviewed every five years.
It was established by Decree No.49 of 1989 (now a National Assembly Law) to handle revenue allocation and fiscal matters on an ongoing basis.
The commission is also responsible for setting the remuneration of political office holders, as well as monitoring the revenue that accumulates in the federation’s account from revenue-generating agencies.
