President Muhammadu Buhari says his strict compliance with the constitutional requirement to declare assets before and after taking office is intended to strengthen best practice, raise moral standards in the Public Service, help build integrity and combat corruption.
In this sense, it has provided that all outgoing officials, elected and appointed from the Vice President on down, must collect the asset declaration form, fill it out and return it as he has done.
Speaking as he collected his form from Isah Mohammed, chairman of the Code of Conduct Office, in Abuja on Friday, President Buhari said no one is excluded from the constitutional duty to declare assets.
“I have signed, collected and acknowledged receipt of my form. From here, I will ask my Bank Manager in Kaduna to show me what has gone in and out of my account. No one is excluded from declaring their assets. I expected everyone from the vice president on down to follow the system.”
Professor Mohammed said the President’s compliance over the past eight years and the support he had given the Office had enabled him to achieve 99% compliance from elected and appointed officials.

He also recognized the President’s support in achieving the digitization of its services and operations, thus helping the organization to open case investigations more efficiently.
