ABUJA – PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari received a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President of PTF on COVID-19 and the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, headed the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Director General of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu and the PTF Coordinator on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, will report to the President on the completion of the second phase of the gradual relaxation of the blockade.

Recall that Mustapha had said that the second phase of gradual relaxation of the confinement in the country was for an initial period of four weeks.

On April 27, President Buhari announced the gradual relief of a five-week lockdown in the states of FCT, Lagos and Ogun, which later became the epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The first phase of the blockade lasted for two weeks until midnight on June 1, and the second phase, which was implemented for four weeks between June 2 and 29, is still subject to revision.

In the second phase, the government had relaxed restrictions on banking and places of worship, while the federal government maintained the curfew across the country, but reduced the time from 10 p.m. at 4 a.m., to limit social interactions and therefore reduce the risk of virus transmission that is now at the community transmission level.
