The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, instructed the staff of the Air Force Operations Command (ATF), Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) on Saturday, to keep pace with the operations against the Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast.

Abubakar gave the charge during a special Eid-el-Kabir party organized for front-line troops in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Compound Command 105, Maiduguri.

Represented by AVM Isiaka Amawo, Head of Policy and Plans, NAF headquarters, Abubakar urged troops to maintain a high level of alertness and combat readiness.

He said he was in Maiduguri to celebrate with the troop on the front line to boost his morale and encourage camaraderie.

“The essence was also filling the void created for those of us who are on the front lines and who did not have the opportunity to celebrate with our families, to allow them to have a sense of belonging during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

“I commend the ATF Commander for his efforts to ensure that the unit’s activities in the Northeast run smoothly and that the pace of the operation is maintained.

On the general note, I want to thank everyone for their contributions to the successes recorded in the operations.

However, we are all aware that there is too much at stake for us in this war. As such, we cannot allow ourselves to be taken on our own.

“I want to remind everyone that we are still on the front line so that we don’t lose sight of the fact that we could be attacked at any time. So let’s continue to keep watch,” he said.

Abubakar noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had demonstrated commitment, provided the necessary support and resources to enable the Service to carry out its functions.

He said: “We can only show appreciation for the President’s support in redoubling our efforts and also remaining as a disciplinary force.

“We are expected to exhibit a high level of professionalism in all of our actions.”

CAS instructed staff to maintain vigilance and combat readiness to ensure the safety of people during the holiday period.

Also speaking, ATF commander AVM Precious Amadi praised CAS for its commitment to the well-being of the troops and the execution of viable projects in command.

Amadi said the gesture would go a long way in motivating the troops.

“His presence was not only a source of motivation but also a strong indication of his commitment to the well-being and morale of ATF Command staff, Maiduguri.

“We will replicate the gestures while staying focused, committed and highly professional in executing air power in support of the counterinsurgency campaign in the Northeast,” Amadi said.
