The Nigerian government has said that no decision has been made on the reopening of tertiary institutions in the country.

Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, revealed this during the daily briefing of the Presidential Working Group on COVID-19 in Abuja.

Nwajiuba, however, said that universities would need to obtain authorization and procedures from the National University Commission (NUC) before reopening.

The minister also revealed that the government was reviewing the guidelines on the reopening of universities across the country.

“But at the tertiary level, this orientation will also be done in collaboration with the National Commission of Universities so that it gives the authorization that we are satisfied with its performance with respect to the guide.

“What we are doing is reducing this entire range of documents in some measurable steps towards reopening. What that means is that the governing council of each institution will then review the guide and compare it, ”he said.
