The Nigerian Customs Area Command in Kano delivered a Sanusi Abdullahi Labaran, arrested while attempting to smuggle 5,342 ATM cards out of the country, to the Kano area office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for a further investigation.

The custom area controller, Kano-Jigawa Command, Nasiru Ahmed, who delivered the suspect, today, October 7, 2020, to the Area Chief of the EFCC Kano Office, Sanusi Aliyu Mohammed, revealed that the suspect was detained at the International Airport Mallam Aminu Kano. by customs officials as he tried to board an Ethiopian airline to Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

In addition, it revealed that a search conducted on the suspect turned up 5,342 ATM cards with different names that he concealed in a bean bag. There are also seven (7) pieces of memory cards and one (1) piece of SD card.

A statement by EFCC spokesman Mr WIlson Uwujaren said the suspect was turned over along with the recovered items, including his travel documents and Dubai residence permit.

The Zone Chief, while praising the partnership between the two agencies, congratulated Customs on the arrest.

He assured them that the EFCC will conduct a diligent investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the suspect about the ATM cards and his mission in Dubai.

“The Commission will leave no stone unturned in its search for the ATM card owners and the rationale behind the efforts it made to ship these ATM cards to Dubai,” Mohammed said.
