The traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Akugbene-Mien, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, HRM Pere Luke SP Kalanama VIII, has awarded scholarships to 48 students from the kingdom.
The Monarch who made the presentation at the Kingdom’s annual worship service, praised the giant steps of the State Government in the Education Sector.
Pere Kalanama VIII, second vice president of the Council of Traditional State Rulers, described the educational advancement of rural communities under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as unmatched in the history of the state.
Saying that the government had raised the bar in infrastructure development and provision of essential learning materials at all levels of the state school system, he said; “Governor Okowa has supported the success of the scholarship scheme that I started to help my people in their educational activities.”
While urging the people to remain committed and determined to criticize the government’s policies and programs, the Monarch told the people of the Kingdom to continue to part in peace with their Neighbors.
He recounted God’s blessings and mercies in 2020 despite the challenges of the year brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, and called on Nigerians to have faith in God.
He argued that God has solutions to the multifaceted problems and challenges facing humanity and the world at large.
In his remarks, the president of the Scholarship Program, Mr. Flemming Kata, said that the educational program was initiated by the king to aid the educational advancement of the indigenous people of the kingdom.
Kata said 48 students received the award last year alone, bringing the total number of recipients to more than 100 since the scholarship program began eight years ago.
