Dennis Obasi’s effort in the 7th minute was all it took for MFM FC to condemn the Sunshine Stars to a loss in Lagos on matchday three of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) South West Derby
Obasi combined well with Akanni Elijah who assisted the goal with a beautiful and brave play from the squad.
Sunshine Stars responded with a decent attacking play, but Kabiru Tijani’s solo play ended with an attempt that went wide after passing two players.
Turning into a head-to-head encounter with both sides sprinting for a goal, Clement Ogwu nearly doubled the lead in the 22nd minute but his effort was negated by the crossbar.
Sunshine Stars entered the game with Seun Olulayo proving to be the main tormentor in the host defense, but there was nothing to show for it.
The second half started the same way the first ended with a fierce attacking game, MFM introduced Onyema in place of Akanni Elijah, while Sunshine’s Sadeeq Yusuf took the place of Tolu Oluwole.
With the game coming to a close, Sunshine Stars blew a glorious opportunity in the 80th minute after a beautiful play from Ayo Adelabu and Fuad Ekelojuoti, but the determined MFM Defense was up to the task.
While MFM was cautious, Sadeeq Yusuf had a glorious opportunity to equalize for Sunshine Stars, but was denied by the frame, after which the referee ended the game as the Church boys fled with a small victory.
