An SUV driver collided with a group of bicyclists near Madison Square Park in Manhattan on Saturday night, leaving two of them hospitalized with minor injuries.
The cyclists were participating in a Black Lives Matter “Ride for Justice” and pedaled south on Fifth Avenue at 7:17 p.m. when the driver who was still on the run early Sunday morning entered the group on 25th Street, police said.
Video of the incident shows the driver honking his horn while driving through the crowd. The riders could be heard screaming in horror.
The victims could then be seen lying in the street as others jumped to their aid, yelling for a doctor.
A 19-year-old woman was taken to Bellevue hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while a 37-year-old man refused medical help, according to law enforcement sources.
Meanwhile, the driver sped up in what sources say was a black 2014 Infiniti QX6.
One of the bicycles that was hit had a badly damaged rear wheel.
The incident is the most recent case of a driver passing through protesters during the months-long civil unrest over the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
