He Research and Development Projects Center (dRPC)in partnership with Advancing Learning and Innovation on Gender Norms (ALIGN), is set to release a new report on gender norms and women in appointed positions in Nigeria.
The report, which will be released at an event in Abuja on Tuesday, investigates the complex interplay of gender norms and media narratives on the experiences of women holding appointed positions in Nigeria’s political and public bureaucracy landscape. .
It also addresses notable gaps in the existing literature by focusing on women in appointed and non-elective roles.
The organizers in a report published before the event said: “The research analyzed the deeply embedded norms and traditions in Nigeria that have systematically marginalized women, relegating them to subordinate roles within the public and private spheres.

“One of the key findings shows that between 1999, when democracy returns, and 2023, only 55 women held senior positions, compared to men who held 326 appointed positions.”
International development partners, embassies and high commissions, civil society organizations, media, politicians, public officials and women’s associations are expected at the event. Minister of Women Affairs Uju Ohanenye is the guest of honour.
