The Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in a war of words over the state government’s compliance with a court ruling reinstating the suspended president of the area of Etsako East local government, Hon Aremiyau Momoh by a High Court of Edo State.

A letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police by the APC signed by the president and secretary, the APC interim committee, Colonel David Imuse (rtd) and Mr. Lawrence Okah accused the state governor of obstructing the implementation of the court ruling that they said is declaratory.

Part of the letter reads: “Please note that said judgment is declaratory that no Superior Court has held otherwise for now.
“While you are counting on your proactive response to enforce this sentence, please accept the assurance of our warm consideration.

The authentic certified copy of the judgment is attached to this letter “.
Imuse had alleged in an interview that “the state of Edo has a governor who has not an iota of respect for the judicial and legislative branches of government or the rule of law, although he regularly goes to court with the most frivolous excuses.”

Edo High Court Judge Daniel Okungbowa had declared in a recent ruling illegal, null and void the suspension of the chairman of the East Etsako council by the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

But in reaction to the development, PDP Advertising Secretary Chris Nehikhare said the state government had already appealed the Superior Court ruling.

Nehikhare said: “Regarding the complaint about the situation in the Etsako East local government area, the state government is exercising its constitutional right of appeal and has filed an appeal in that regard. It has also requested a stay of the execution of that sentence. Therefore, the status quo remains and only the court can rule on the matter and not the APC ”.
