Uncertainty about completion, reopening of Enugu airportBy Victor Ajihromanus

Former Abia State Governor and Senate Whip Chief Senator Orji Kalu has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the successful reconstruction and reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu.

Kalu said President Buhari is committed to infrastructure development across the country, adding that the flagship projects being implemented in the southeast by the federal government should be applauded by Ndigbo regardless of his political affiliation.

The former governor, while urging Igbo sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, to support the federal government in its efforts to reposition Nigeria, stressed that the Southeast has witnessed strong development during the presidency. of Buhari.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, while hosting a cross-section of professionals of Igbo origin, Kalu noted that President Buhari is determined to maintain investments in critical infrastructure across the country, adding that the well-being of Nigerians is one of the main priorities in the political impulse of the federal government.

He said that “with the successful completion of the rehabilitation and improvement of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the people of the Southeast, should appreciate the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to make life meaningful for Nigerians, including Ndigbo.

“I remember that when the airport was closed for reconstruction in 2019, some people who play politics of bitterness were making noise that the project would be abandoned. “Today, I am sure these political agents regret their statements as President Buhari has shown his love for Ndigbo, with the timely delivery of the recently reconstructed Enugu International Airport.

“With better facilities at the airport, the capacity of the airport has been strengthened.

“The recently refurbished airport, once local and international flights are fully resumed, will witness a large influx of passengers and commercial activities.

“The southeast economy has been boosted with investments in key infrastructure such as the recently refurbished Enugu International Airport.

“President Buhari’s federal government has implemented many projects in the southeast, including the Ikot Ekpene-Alaoji-Ugwuaji switching station, the Nmandi Azikwe mausoleum, NSIA-Umuahia Diagnostic Center (NUDC), improvement of the Aba-Itu- Malabar line 132KV (82km) and other projects.

“There are still ongoing federal government projects, including the Second Niger Bridge, the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway, the Owerri-Umuahia highway and others.

“The President is a friend of Ndigbo and as such has continued to show his love for the Igbo with the flagship projects being implemented in the southeast.

“Anyone who says the president doesn’t like Ndigbo is being cheap to the truth.

“The president has friends in the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, including the southeast.

“I remember that during my tenure as governor, President Buhari was our guest in Abia State. During his visit, he was conferred a chieftain title in my hometown, Igbere, and was likewise honored with an honorary doctorate by Abia State University (ABSU), Umuahia.

“The President is passionate about a united Nigeria. He is determined to ensure uniform development in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

“The governors of the southeast, despite belonging to the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) and the Grand Progressive Alliance (APGA), enjoy a good working relationship with President Buhari.

“The governors along with other Igbo leaders meet with the president from time to time to discuss matters related to the development of the southeast area.

“As leaders, we must put feelings aside and work for the progress of our region and Nigeria in general.

“The time has come for Igbo sons and daughters to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to achieve the Southeast of our dream, with the support of President Buhari.

Kalu, urged the political class in the Southeast to applaud the president’s efforts to fix infrastructure in the region, adding that the president will not deviate from his strong agenda to reposition Nigeria.

The former governor, who attacked the preparers of the hate campaign, warned politicians not to heat up politics before the 2023 general election, adding that APC remains united.
