Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani, Popular Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu East chairman of the Senate Committee for Cooperation and Integration in Africa / NEPAD, has said that the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu would boost the nation’s economic recovery.

Senator Nnamani, who expressed satisfaction with the airport’s reopening after repairs, said he was optimistic that the nation’s economy, especially in the eastern region, which was in decline due to the shutdown aggravated by the coronavirus outbreak, now he would recover. up.

In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Senator Nnamani said: “I welcome the news of the reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport which serves as the gateway to the Igbo area of ​​Nigeria with enthusiasm.”

Recall that the airport had been closed for 370 days by the aviation authorities due to security problems, including the hitherto defective runway surface and the navigation aids to comply with international standards.

The former governor who praised Enugu State Governor Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his leading role in updating the project said: “It is ennobling that Governor Ugwuanyi has lived up to the expectations of overseeing the main city and central Igbo. Earth.

“Not only did he coordinate, organize and promote the activities, but he participated directly on a daily basis.

“It is consistent with the role expected of the Governor of the State of Enugu to symbolize the total social and cultural appropriation of the Igbo city of Enugu.”

However, Senator Nnamani advised airport users not to let the excitement of the reopening undermine adherence to all COVID-19 protocols, saying that the health of citizens is important.
