The Enugu state government has congratulated the iconic former Nigerian international footballer, national captain and coach, “President” Christian Chukwu, on his 70th birthday. Chukwu is from the state of Enugu.
A congratulatory message from the State Information Commissioner, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, said that the government and the people of the state are “indeed very proud of the immeasurable contributions of this great son of the state of Enugu to the development of soccer both locally and internationally ”.
He added that “we remember with great joy Christian Chukwu’s many contributions to football, including leading the Nigerian team, The Green Eagles, as captain to win their first African Cup of Nations in 1980.”
Noting his other achievements in his football career, the government said that “Christian Chukwu also had an outstanding career as a coach of various national teams, including Nigeria, Kenya and Lebanon,” and said that “his (Chukwu’s) performance at various times As a player, the coach and coach of Enugu Rangers International FC is truly incomparable. “
“As we join his family, friends and the entire soccer family around the world to celebrate this soccer icon, we pray to Almighty God to grant him good mental and bodily health,” Aroh said.
