Epilepsy? An abnormal movement of the skeletal muscles due to abnormal, paroxysmal uncontrolled electrical activity. It is a recurring attack of loss of activity, sensory phenomena, and behavioral abnormalities. It is a paroxysmal disorder of the nervous system.
Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, and causing seizures and sometimes loss of consciousness. It can affect people from
all ages, but generally begins in childhood or after age 60.

Epilepsy varies from person to person. Interruption of electrical activity occurs in epilepsy brains, temporarily disrupting the messaging system between brain cells.
Epilepsy causes recurring seizures, which are the result of excess electricity discharges into a group of brain cells. A seizure is defined as sudden behavior change due to temporary unbalanced electrical operation of the brain.
Usually, the brain continuously generates tiny electrical impulses that travel neurons throughout the body through chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. In patients with seizures, sudden and synchronized electrical explosions energy affects the person’s consciousness, movement or sensations.
Seizures in epilepsy may be related to brain injury or family history, but the cause is often completely unpredictable and can cause other health problems. A person is diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two unprovoked seizures without any other medical conditions, such as withdrawal from alcohol or extremely low blood sugar, while a seizure does not mean epilepsy.
Types of epileptic seizures
Exist many different types of epileptic seizures, as seizures are the main symptoms epilepsy. They all start in the brain but affect only part of the brain.
Simple Focal (Partial) Seizures
- No cause a loss of consciousness
- Involuntary jerking of a body part
- Alterations to the sense of smell, touch, sight, taste and hearing
- Tingle and dizziness
- A intense feeling of fear
- Complex feeling like it’s hard to describe
- Feelings that same event has happened before
Complex (partial) focal seizures
- To imply loss of consciousness
- Curious in the space
- Answering abnormally
- Running repetitive movements such as rubbing hands, slapping lips, chewing, or swallowing
Generalized seizures involve all areas of the brain. There are six types of generalized seizures.
01) Absence attacks
- Often occurs in childhood
- Brief loss of consciousness.
- Staring into space
- Sudden movements of the body or extremities.
- Eye blink
- Generally lasts 15 seconds
- It can happen several times a day.
02) tonic seizures
- All muscles suddenly stiffen
- The person becomes unconscious and falls backwards
03) Atonic seizures
- The muscles suddenly become relaxing and flexible.
- generally falls forward
04) Clone Seizurres
- shaking and jerking body feeling
- usually the neck, face and arms are affected
- loss of bladder or bowl control
- Tongue or bite on the inside of the cheek
- Difficulty breathing
05) Myoclonic seizures
- Sudden jerking or shaking of the body.
- Often happens after waking up
- The person does not lose consciousness
06) Tonic-clonic seizures
- Sudden loss of consciousness
- Body stiffness and tremors
- Loss of bladder control.
- Vascular insufficiency

- Exercise disease-related intolerance

- Antiepileptic medications (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, valproate, primidone, phenytoin)

Epilepsy can be best managed by a team of doctors who provide medical, social, psychological, and educational support. The most important step you should take is to seek help as soon as you feel less able to cope. You should speak to a member of the epilepsy team if you have problems with school, work, finances, relationships, or daily activities.
