Ex-SSG, Sa’idu emerges as Sokoto PDP Governor’s candidate

Former Sokoto State State Government (SSG) Immediate Secretary Sa’idu Umar emerged as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election.

Additionally, a former environment commissioner, Sagir Bafarawa, has been chosen to be his running mate for the post.

The state’s current deputy governor, Manir Dan Iya, who initially showed interest in the governorship but gave his ambition to Mr. Umar, will now compete for a senatorial seat in the state.

Tom Zakari of the party’s national headquarters announced that Umar won 695 votes out of 755 delegates.

In addition to the acting deputy governor, others who gave their interest to Umar include a former state deputy governor, Mukhtar Shagari, and the current state PDP chairman, Bello Goronyo.

In his remarks, Umar thanked the governor and the party’s supporters in the state for giving him the opportunity to be their representative in the 2023 general election.

He assured the people of the state that he would continue to improve and maintain what Governor Aminu Tambuwal has achieved, particularly its legacy of consensus building, teamwork, and inclusion.
