Dame Pauline Tallen, Minister for Women’s Affairs, has reiterated her commitment to ensuring justice for the female body member, Ezeiruaku Ifenyinwa Fidelia, who was recently allegedly dehumanized by an army officer.
The minister, in a statement on Friday, frowned at the way the corps member was dehumanized by a female colleague and assured Nigerians that she was willing to travel additional legitimate miles to ensure justice for the corps member in question.
She said: “I want to assure all Nigerians that, together with my colleague, the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, DG NYSC, we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the member of the corps receives the desired justice.”
The minister, who also granted the corps member’s request, said: “I want to assure all Nigerians that the corps member will formally move to Lagos after his request to be deployed.”
For greater clarity, the victim, according to her, “had also confirmed in a telephone conversation that at no time had her phone been seized.”
He wondered why an army officer who should jealously protect her partner from harm was the one dehumanizing them.
“It is regrettable that while we are raising the bar in our campaign to maintain zero tolerance against SGBV at all levels of the country, including the security sector, such an act may still occur. “
Asking Nigerians for calm, his ministry, as it was disclosed, will continue to engage with the Nigerian Army leadership to prevent such a recurrence.
Condemning the act on behalf of Nigerian women and all partners in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence, she said: “We unequivocally condemn this unacceptable and unimaginable incident and we stand in solidarity to say no to violence in all its ramifications.”
