Says government imposed a stranger as monarch

Rotimi Ojomoyela

Ado Ekiti – The Famokiti royal family of Orin Ekiti, Ido / Osi local government area of Ekiti state, has dragged Governor Kayode Fayemi to court over the alleged imposition of someone from the unknown royal family as a new Olorin elect.

A suit number HAD / 44/20, filed in the Ekiti State Superior Court, Ado Ekiti Division, seeks the annulment of the selection of an Adeniran Oluwafemi Ajibewa from the ruling house of Ajibewa as Olorin-elect on the premise that such a dynasty The history of the town never existed.

The lawsuit was brought by the princes Gbenga Fajulugbe, Olaniyi Fajulugbe and According to Olatoye, representing the royal Famokiti dynasty as plaintiffs.

Accompanied as defendants are: Adeniran Ajibewa (1st), Samuel Ajibewa (2nd), Governor Kayode Fayemi (3rd), the Attorney General (4th), the Commissioner for Local Government and Chief Affairs (5th) and the Secretary , the local government Ido / Osi (6th).

In the legal document deposed by their attorney, Obafemi Adewale, the plaintiffs said the selection was a flagrant violation of the Ekiti State Headquarters Act, the Olorin State Headquarters Review of 1977, and the 1988 Morgan Report, which he only recognized Famokiti and Olubunmo as the two existing ones. government houses in the city.

The plaintiffs argued that the recent judicial investigation panel of Judge Jide Aladejana established by Fayemi to review the chief affairs of Ekiti rejected the request for the creation of the Ajibewa dynasty and gave a vivid recommendation that only Famokiti and Olubunmo should be recognized.

Based on this, they prayed for a precautionary order that set aside the selection, nomination, and approval of the first accused as Olorin-elect.

They also sought an order preventing the governor or his agents from going ahead with the installation or taking additional action, pending the determination of the substantive case.

Also looking for “a statement that the first defendant is neither Famokiti nor Olubunmo and that Famokiti is next to produce the new Olorin.

“Also a declaration that the principle of rotation must be followed and that the selection and approval of the first accused be declared null, void and illegal.

“A perpetual mandate order that restricts the first and second defendants from parading or are allowed to be held as members of the Olorin Headquarters government houses.”

Following the selection and approval of Adeniran Ajibewa as Olorin-elect, the two ruling houses had written a letter of protest to the governor on June 4, 2020, saying that Oluwafemi Ajibewa was not a recognized Prince in the city.

The letter written through the Legal Chambers of Obafemi Adewale and Co, insisted that the gazette allegedly signed on June 3, 1999, establishing that the royal dynasty of Ajibewa was a product of the falsification and flagrant mutilation of historical facts about the community.

However, the state government, through the Commissioner for Local Government and Headquarters Affairs, Prof. Adio Folayan, had always maintained that due diligence was followed in the selection and that no law or tradition was circumvented.

The stool became vacant after the disappearance of Oba Oluwole Olubunmo in 2015.
