Dr. Kayode Ajulo, a lawyer, described the admission of former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode to the Congress of All Progressives, APC, as a “ symbolic presidential amnesty ”, in light of his past attacks on the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ajulo revealed this in a statement Thursday in Abuja, in the context of Fani-Kayode’s recent defection to the APC.

He said APC was magnanimous in hosting Fani-Kayode, regardless of the fact that some people, including some party members, might not be thrilled with the development.

“The past attacks by FFK against President Buhari and the APC had unconsciously influenced the passions of some sectors, for the armed and unarmed agitations against the President and the Nigerian state,” he said.

He recalled that Fani-Kayode had suggested on different occasions with his tweets that the APC government was full of terrorists.

However, Ajulo said that Buhari’s commendable magnanimity towards Fani-Kayode should be extended to various agitators in Nigeria as the basis for amnesty.

According to him, amnesty in this context should not be viewed from the strict point of view of legal knowledge, but rather the ordinary sense is desirable.

He said: “Therefore, for our immediate purpose, amnesty means forgiveness, cessation of the memory of evil, indulgence and mercy.

“The symbolism of the president points to the fact that the vilest ‘sinner’ in his lucid moment of deep reflection can be given a sure step toward the ‘mercy seat.’
