A motorist, Dayo Oshituyi, who was reportedly assaulted by men in the Ekiti State Governor’s convoy in Akure, Ondo State, has been asked to visit the governor’s office and show proof of his claims.

Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS) Yinka Oyebode, in a statement, also wants the man to identify the tag with the person’s name.

Oyebode stated that the incident had been brought to the attention of the Ekiti State Government.

He said: “We identify with the victim and affirm our belief that no citizen should suffer any form of brutality in contravention of current laws.

“While the allegation is currently being investigated by the state government and relevant law enforcement agencies, it is important to make clear that the governor is not aware of the incident and cannot be part of any form of assault on a citizen. This contradicts the allegation that the governor witnessed the alleged brutalization of Mr. Oshituyi.

“We kindly ask Mr. Oshituyi to contact the Governor’s Office, Oke Bareke, Ado-Ekiti, with useful information to assist in the investigations.

When Newslodge approached Oyebode to ask why the government couldn’t use its internal mechanism to communicate with Oshituyi instead of asking him to visit it and show evidence, he said: “We didn’t order you to report to Government House, just We asked him to show more evidence that it was the governor’s convoy that destroyed his car. “People can’t just sit somewhere to make a video and make an accusation, they have to show evidence.”

Oyebode promised that the government would look inward to find out what happened.
