Last week, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, inaugurated the 8-member Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award, NNMA, as a positive force for transformation.

The inauguration was led by the Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen George Akume, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Akume, who was emphatic on excellence, said the government painstakingly selected and appointed people of proven integrity along with excellence in their various disciplines to the NNMA Governing Board for National Development that would stand the test of time.

He also called on board members to see themselves as the image of the nation in the eyes of Nigerians and the world as they carry out their work, and said they should reveal their intellectual and academic expertise as members. of the academy board towards national development.

Also in his comments, he stated that the agency had made steady progress in recognizing citizens over the years that they have distinguished themselves in their various chosen fields of endeavor for national development regardless of their background, and that they are also rewarded accordingly since its inception.

Members of the Governing Board include Prof. Sheikh Abdallah, Prof. Jinadu Adele, Prof. Mohammed Hassan, Prof. JJ Andy, Prof. SC Ohaegbulam, Prof. WB Qurix, and Engr Festus Daudu, ( on behalf of the Ministry).

He said: “In retrospect, I must proudly say that the NNMA has been able to record countless successes and has made significant progress in its determined efforts to make Nigeria stand out.

“Therefore, I entrust them to continue in that spirit as positive forces of transformation and enlightening agency for the country.”

He further said that “As newly appointed and re-elected members of the NNMA celebrating today, we sincerely hope that your productivity and integrity will shine through your tenure.”

Previously, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr Festus Daudu, spoke, who is a welcoming comment that called on the members of the board to be resilient and show all sense of patriotism in the discharge of their mandate.

Daudu also assured them the support and cooperation of the Ministry to improve their performance and will make sure everything is resolved.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of other board members, the chairman of the board, Professor Shekarau Aku, said that they are grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari for considering them worthy and trustworthy for having been selected and appointed to manage the affairs of NNMA. .

Aku further stated that the NNMA, being an organization charged with promoting patriotism, excellence in the academic system, accountability, and transparency, promised to reposition the agency for better academic excellence.

“I have no doubt in my mind of the expectations of my colleagues, family and friends, as well as my supporters, as I once again assume this exalted position as president of the NNMA. This is particularly so when we strive to do, with all vigor and sincerity of purpose, the task of rewarding excellence in all areas of life, ”Aku said.
