The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested five suspects for alleged illegal possession of firearms.
The command’s public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, in a statement issued Sunday in Kaduna, said the suspects were arrested with loaded AK-47s, Makarov pistols and other firearms.
Jalige said his arrests followed a tip received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kubacha.
The suspects were involved in unhealthy activities in the village of Kenyi in the Kagarko local government area of the state, threatening the peaceful coexistence of residents over disputed land.
It revealed that the situation had deteriorated to the boiling point, prompting one of the parties to threaten to kill their opponents with dangerous weapons.
“Items recovered from them included an AK-47 rifle, loaded with 29 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition and one 9 x 18mm rounds. Makarov pistol, loaded with seven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, ”he said.
Jalige added that the quick response of the force restored normalcy in the community.
He said the investigation so far has unraveled the circumstances behind the fight and the source of the illegal firearms.
