Ibrahim Shema, former Governor of Katsina State, has asked the national president of the Democratic Party of the PeoplesIyorchia Ayu, to revoke his suspension from the party or he will renounce his affiliation.

He also called on the PDP to rescind the decision to dissolve the party’s Katsina State Working Committee.

Shema made the demands in a letter dated March 24 to Ayu.

The former governor and four others were suspended Thursday from the game for alleged anti-partisan activities.

Others suspended are former Senate President Pius Anyim, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, Benue State’s Dennis Ityavyar and Zamfara State’s Aslam Aliyu.

In addition, the PDP’s National Work Committee (NWC) dissolved the executive committee of the state chapter and in its place constituted an interim committee “to manage the affairs of the party in the state for a period not exceeding 90 days.”

The party said it acted in accordance with Sections 29(2)(b) and 31(2) E of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

Katsina PPD crisis

The state chapter of the PDP has been mired in crisis since May 2022 following the primaries that produced Yakubu Lado as its gubernatorial candidate.

Shema and several members of the State Excos rejected Lado’s candidacy and even boycotted Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign rally in December.

Last month, the Katsina state government withdrew the N11 billion corruption case against Shema. And many believe the outcome of the governor’s race in Katsina state reflects the split in the PDP.

Dikko Radda, the APC candidate got 859,892 votes to defeat Lado who got 486,620 votes.

“Rescind the decision of the National Labor Committee (NWC) of my suspension as a member of our party within the next forty-eight (48) hours.

Please note that if these two changes above are not effected within forty-eight (48) hours, this letter serves as my formal and official withdrawal from my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) effective Saturday, March 25. of 2023.”

The National President,

Re: Illegal dissolution of the Katsina State Executive Committee, Appointment of an Interim Committee and my suspension.

My attention has been drawn to a press release made on Thursday, March 23, 2023 (Ramadan 1, 1444 AH) regarding the above action by the National Work Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as announced by its Secretary National Advertising Debo Ologunagba and broadcast in numerous media; Printed, Electronic and Social.

The statement also went on to announce the suspension of other party leaders in the country.

It is pertinent to state categorically here that chapter 10 of the constitution of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) (2017) as amended (Disciplinary Procedure), in particular section 56 (6) (7) and section 59 (3), decisions that clearly demonstrate contempt for democracy were not met to reach these decisions.

I had the privilege of being the One (1) National Vice President of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the Chairman of its National Disciplinary Committee, who amended and drafted the Disciplinary procedure as enshrined in our current constitution in accordance with the principles of justice, fairness and equity.

I am a member of our party’s National Executive Council (NEC), Board of Directors (BOT) and CAUCUS and know for fact and law that the dissolution of a legally elected Katsina State Executive Committee cannot be constitutionally valid, as well as my suspension from the match.

Let me also state in clear and unequivocal terms that I have been a loyal and dedicated party member for the last Twenty-four years; I never left or joined any other party despite all kinds of challenges I faced and have worked under our party constitution and law. Therefore, I cannot continue to remain in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the laws of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, who has a duty to preserve, protect and defend our constitution within his limited powers.

It is at the height of these developments that I make the following appeals.

Rescind the decision of the National Labor Committee (NWC) to unlawfully disband the duly elected Katsina State Executive Committee and allow them to complete their term and dissolve the so-called interim committee similar to the one that so many court decisions on earth have outlawed.

Rescind the decision of the National Labor Committee (NWC) of my suspension as a member of our party within the next forty-eight (48) hours.

Please note that if I do not make these two changes above within forty-eight (48) hours, this letter serves as my formal and official withdrawal from my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) effective Saturday, March 25, 2023. .

These actions have caused and will continue to cause monumental damage to our party if left unchecked.

My good wishes to all of you.

Ibrahim S. shema CON, Fnim,

(Sarkin Yakin Hausa)

Member, National Executive Committee of the PPD.
