A team of four researchers from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in Oyo State, won N89.1 million as a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) research grant, under the TETFund National Research Fund 2021 (NRF ) Intervention.
LAUTECH Senior Registrar, Public and Alumni Relations Assistant Olalekan Fadeyi made it known in a statement in Ogbomoso.
Mr. Fadeyi said that one of the researchers was Samuel Taiwo, former Chancellor of the Faculty of Health Sciences, LAUTECH, and Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, whose project was titled: “Evaluation of Isothermal Mediated Amplification Assay Loop Detection of Active Tuberculosis in Nigeria”.
According to him, another is the leader of the Nanotechnology Research Group (NANO+), Agbaje Lateef from the Department of Pure and Applied Biology, who will work on a project entitled: “Innovative Microbial Volarization of Keratinous Wastes for Ecofriendly Production of Protein- Hydrolyzates rich in keratin (PROKEH) as biofertilizers”.
“In addition, sole member of the Governing Council of the University, Prof. Ojeyemi Olabemiwo from the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, whose project title is: “Modification of Agbabu natural bitumen with nanoparticles synthesized from agricultural waste ash to improve engineering properties and service life Suitable for road paving.
“The fourth prize for the project, titled: ‘Development of metakaolin-blended cement as an alternative to ordinary Portland cement for low-cost, durable building construction,’ was awarded to Dr. Ajamu Olalere of the Department of Civil Engineering,” he said. Mr. Fadeyi.

He said Acting Vice-Chancellor Mojeed Liasu, in his commentary, thanked the scholars for their efforts in winning the scholarships, noting that the awards had added value to the University’s laurels.
Mr. Fadeyi, also in the statement, said that the Director of the LAUTECH Center for Research, Innovation and Development (LAUCRID), Taofik Adedosu, thanked the university for the support that enabled the center to excel in its activities.
