The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has rebuked the opposition Popular Democratic Party, PDP, for siding with the position of Financial times describing Nigeria as a failed state.

The APC, in a statement by the secretary of its CECPC Interim Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Senator James Akpanudoedehe, said on Sunday that as detractors and opposition supporters sing their doomsday wishes for Nigeria, the country it is nowhere near becoming a failed state.

Part of the statement says; “The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is no stranger to the country’s challenges and is tackling them visibly and head-on.

“From the economy to security, it is easy, in short, Nigeria with some recently recorded security incidents and the economic recession. However, this government has demonstrated the political will and ability to contain any criminal / terrorist activity and return the economy to growth.

The administration of President Buhari, which sees the urgent need for a better police system for the country and is embarking on radical police reforms and supporting community policing, is definitely not ruling a country that is close to becoming a failed state.

Amid the COVID-19-induced economic slowdown, President Buhari’s administration, which is stimulating the economy by preventing business collapse; support for labor-intensive sectors such as agriculture; job creation through investments in infrastructure on roads, railways, bridges; Promoting local manufacturing and production at all levels to achieve self-sufficiency in critical sectors of the economy is definitely not governing a country close to becoming a failed state.

“The administration of President Buhari, which is implementing one of the largest and most far-reaching social investment programs in the world targeting the very poor and other vulnerable groups, including women and people living with disabilities through spending to Pro-poor is definitely not ruling a country that is close to becoming a failed state.

“Nigerians will remember the ignoble pastime of past administrations who preferred to bury their heads in the sand and plot against insecurity and participate in the voodoo economy to deceive Nigerians while national resources were stolen and diverted to political cronies. Those days are gone.

“While the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its henchmen are involved in their unfortunate and apparently orchestrated attacks against the Armed Forces and other security services, the APC will rather support their efforts and charge them to do more to further degrade plus the ability of terrorists and other criminal elements to attack soft targets ”.
