The US state of Georgia confirmed the victory of President-elect Joe Biden in the November 3 election after a painstaking manual recount of his five million presidential votes.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who announced the final results in a statement Thursday night, said the audit did not change Biden’s victory in the state.

According to him, the former vice president and candidate of the Democratic Party defeated the current Republican president Donald Trump by 12,284 votes.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that unofficial results before the count had shown that Biden was leading Trump in the Republican-controlled state by 14,111 votes.

Raffensperger, a Republican, said the audit found that the highest error rate in any county (local government) was 0.73 percent and the overall margin between Biden and Trump remained below 0.5 percent.

The state is expected to certify the final results on Friday, marking another setback for Trump, who is trying to reverse the election results in the battle states.

Raffensperger said: “Georgia’s historic first state audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper voting system accurately counted and reported results.

“This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local election officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short amount of time.”

Biden is ahead in the popular vote by 5.9 million and has garnered 306 of Trump’s 232 in Electoral College votes state by state, well above the 270 needed to win the race.

Trump and his campaign organization demanded a recount of Georgia for alleged widespread fraud.

In reaction to the results, the Trump campaign’s chief legal adviser Jenna Ellis insisted that the state counted the illegal votes, without providing evidence.

But Gabriel Sterling, Georgia Voting System Implementation Manager, said the audit found no evidence of a vote shift as alleged by the president and his team.

“One of the big complaints is that these machines somehow flipped votes or changed votes or did things.

“They didn’t, at least not in Georgia. We show it, ”Sterling, who is a Republican, told CNN in an interview.

Trump, who has refused to budge, has filed multiple lawsuits challenging the results in battle states claimed by Biden.

This is despite the state election officials’ disclaimer that there is no evidence of major wrongdoing.

On Thursday, Trump’s efforts suffered another legal setback in Georgia, Arizona and Pennsylvania when judges dismissed his claim for a fraudulent vote count.
