The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, DAWN, yesterday urged southwestern governors to enforce the law against open grazing in their states, saying the enforcement would improve security in the region.
DAWN Director General Mr. Seye Oyeleye said this while addressing reporters in Ibadan.
Oyeleye said: “Our governors should use the police and Amotekun to enforce the ban on outdoor grazing. You cannot make a law and go to bed expecting it to be enforced. Former Governor Ayo Fayose enforced the law when he was there.
Our governors are serious, but to be seen as serious, they must enforce the law against open grazing.
“The Southwest states have banned free range grazing and we at the DAWN Commission believe this is the first step in ensuring safety in our forests.
“Everyone must comply, we don’t want grass in the open air. If the way of life of some people is to herd cows, that way of life is harmful to our own way of life, which is agriculture and must stop ”.
