Gunmen suspected of being bandits on Monday killed an uncle of a Katsina legislator, identified as Rufa’i, another vigilante, and kidnapped eight others, including the newly married couple.

The information collected revealed that the incident occurred in four different attacks carried out by bandits in the local government areas of Safana and Sabuwa in Katsina state.

Sources said that the gunmen in Runka, Safana LGA killed the legislator’s uncle and kidnapped the newlywed couple while they were in Sabuwa LGA, attacked Mai Yadi village killing the vigilante and in Rimi village they kidnapped the women. six women.

A source in Safana with whom he spoke on condition of anonymity said: “Yes, they killed the legislator’s uncle, one Rufa’i. The incident occurred on Monday morning when he was on his way to the Runka market in Gora.

“They also shot others, but I cannot confirm if they died later or not.

“Last Saturday in Runka, the bandits also kidnapped a newly married couple,” the source said.

Another source in the Sabuwa LGA area said that bandits numbering more than 100 riding motorcycles invaded two villages in Machika district, Sabuwar local government area in Katsina state, killing the vigilante and kidnapping six women.

The source said sporadically firing bandits launched the attack on the two villages, Mai Yadi and Rimi in two separate attacks or operations that took place between 9:30 pm and 2:30 am early Monday morning.

According to the source, “last night (Sunday night) some bandits invaded the village of Rimi in the Machika neighborhood and kidnapped six women.

“Before that, they invaded a village called Mai Yadi where they killed a man suspected of being a vigilante because he was with a Gora at night.

“We didn’t sleep until 3 in the morning. Our ears were filled with the sounds of bandit gunfire. The town where the six women were kidnapped was a neighboring town.

“They started the operation around 9:30 pm. Around 1 am they continued until 2:30 am.

“We called to inform the soldiers and they told us that they had been informed.

“We even thought they were going to attack our village, but due to security presences they did not,” the source said.

The effort to get the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, to confirm the incident failed because he did not respond to a call sent to his mobile phone.
