Reactions from around the world have followed the February 25 presidential election in Africa’s largest democracy, which produced Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s next leader. Tinubu was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The main opposition parties in the fiercely contested election have refused to concede defeat, and the two closest contenders have launched a formal challenge to the results in court.
Tinubu, 70, got 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates. His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), got 6,984,520 votes to come second in the election, while Peter Obi of the Labor Party got a total of 6,101,533.
Atiku called the result “a violation of democracy” after taking 29 percent of the vote, while Obi, who got 25 percent, told supporters they had been “stolen” of victory and said the election is “the worst in recent years for Nigeria”. history.”
Opposition parties lament the inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload photos of polling station results to a central portal, IReV, created for this purpose.
INEC’s guideline for the election explicitly states that results from each of the more than 176,000 polling stations will be transmitted electronically to the commission’s collection system and also uploaded to its website. But that was not possible with INEC apologizing for what it called “technical failures.”
While Messrs. Obi and Atiku continue to challenge the presidential election results for, among other reasons, not being uploaded to IReV in time, they have ironically endorsed and celebrated some of the national legislature election results favorable to their parties. Elections for federal legislators were held simultaneously on the same day as the presidential election.

Then, on March 10, the PDP’s National Youth Coordinator, Abba Kadade, led the party’s elected members of the Kaduna House of Representatives to meet with Atiku.
The Labor Party won 40 seats in the National Assembly: six seats in the Senate and 34 in the House of Representatives. For its part, the PPD won 29 seats in the Senate and 102 in the House of Representatives. The APC won the most seats with 57 in the Senate and 162 in the House of Representatives.
The results of the elections to the Senate and the House of Representatives were expected to be uploaded and published on the IReV portal at the end of the vote. Some public commentators have claimed that INEC has since uploaded the results of the elections to the national legislative level.

One of Mr. Obi’s special advisers, Valentine Ozigbo. wrote: “INEC officials uploaded the results of the National Assembly elections to the server without any setbacks.”
But how true is the claim that INEC has uploaded the results of the National Assembly elections in IReV but has not yet done so for the presidential elections?

PREMIUM TIMES extracted data on the INEC portal on Monday March 27 and we discovered that out of 176,846, INEC has uploaded 166,656 results from polling stations for the presidential election. This represents 94.24 percent. The electoral commission is still expected to upload the results of 10,190 voting units.
For its part, the INEC has uploaded to the IReV portal the results of 150,281 polling stations for the senatorial elections, which represents 84.97% of the total.
Regarding the House of Representatives, the electoral commission has uploaded 152,055 results of voting units of federal electoral districts in IReV. This represents 85.98 percent of the results.
A review of the results by PREMIUM TIMES shows that as of Monday, March 27, only 48 percent of the FCT senatorial election results were published in IReV. INEC has published only 1,356 of the 2,822 results from polling stations in the FCT’s senatorial district.
Similarly, only 78 percent of the senatorial election results in Akwa Ibom Sur are uploaded to IReV. Ekong Samson of the DPP is the senator-elect for the Akwa Ibom southern senatorial district elections. the electoral commission uploaded only 996 of 1,275 voting units result in the senatorial district.
Then, in central Delta, the INEC published 1,399 of the 2,180 voting units of the results of the senatorial elections. This represents 64.17 percent of the total results which produced APC’s Ede Dafinone.
Conclusion
Using official data from Nigeria’s electoral referee, INEC, we find that as of March 27, out of 176,846, INEC has uploaded 166,656 presidential election voting unit results. This represents 94.24 percent. For its part, the INEC has published 150,281 (84.97 percent) of the total results of the Senate elections and 152,055 (85.98 percent) of the results for the House of Representatives.

Therefore, it is false and misleading to say that INEC has uploaded the results of the national legislative elections but has not yet uploaded the results of the presidential elections. The data shows that as of March 27, INEC had uploaded and published more results of the presidential elections in IReV than those of the National Assembly.
