A chief of the Nigerian New People’s Party, NNPP, accused the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of contributing to the current internal crisis that is shaking the main opposition party.

Bamgbose said this while reacting to the recent meeting between Rivers State’s former Vice President and Wike Governor Nyesom Wike, insisting that the meeting showed that all was not well with the PDP.

Atiku, after meeting with Wike, said that Nigerians are eager for the PDP to return to power. Bamgbose described the statement as a pure fallacy, adding that the PDP had lost its opposition status.

2023: APC and PDP leaders in a secret deal to maintain power in the north – Bamgbose

Moving on, the 2023 presidential candidate noted that Atiku’s utter neglect of the party had seriously affected the party’s political fortunes.

“Abubakar Atiku is undoubtedly the national leader of the party, but unfortunately he has not paid serious attention to the political welfare of the party, this has left the party incapacitated and breathless,” Bamgbose told NEWSLODGE. Monday

How the mighty fall in the midst of battles! The PDP has lost its political value as an opposition party.

“The party has weakened so much that the possibility of fighting for the power of APC in 2023 is very slim. It is too late for Atiku to rescue the party from political extinction.

“It has ignored the party for so long that the party has lost its heavyweights in almost every area of the country. The party has lost governors, senators, former governors and others to APC.

“Except for some obvious reasons, Goodluck Jonathan would also have defected to APC, Atiku should know that PDP can no longer support APC.

“The only hope left is for the parties to merge and present a formidable candidate to face APC in 2023. Trusting the PDP to overthrow APC in 2023 is a great dream.

“It may not happen. The PDP, as it is currently constituted, lacks the political capacity and the sagacity to deliver surprises in the next general elections.

“Atiku’s intervention cannot save the party, as it has become obvious that the party has bowed down politically. Atiku’s total departure from the party after the 2019 general election has seriously upset the party’s fortunes.

“Resuscitating the party before the general elections of 2023 will undoubtedly be an arduous task. It is almost too late for Atiku’s intervention to save the group.

“The party has become practically empty as the big furry have left the party. The only way for the party to gain relevance is for it to start merger talks with other parties before the 2023 general election. Atiku should be at the forefront of doing this, anything other than this APC can still get away with it. ” , he claimed.
