SWAPS

SWAPS in the mix.

Popular Nigerian sound engineer Efe Destiny Esuakpor, widely known as SWAPS in mixing, has recently revealed what made his mix unique and evolving over the years.

SWAPS on the mix, in an interview monitored by Newspapers, revealed that he views every job as a learning curve and this is part of what has helped him evolve in the industry over the years.

Efe Destiny Esuakpor popularly known as Swaps or Swapsonthemix was born on November 11, 1984 (in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria), Swaps., Hailed as one of Nigeria’s greatest audio mastering and mixing engineers, is based in Nigeria .

SWAPS in mixing is widely identified as one of Nigeria’s top sound engineers and is referred to by Artist and Bloggers as Africa’s leading sound engineer who has enjoyed a successful career, working with several prominent African artists such as Davido, Peruzzi, Dremo, Sabor, Skiibii, Reekado Banks, Iyanya, Vector, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shey, Cabosnoop, Solid Star, Kiss Daniel, 9ice, Sugarboy to name a few

Although the name, SWAPS in the mix, has always been a household name, a lot of people began to keep an eye on his work after the mix of Davido and Kizz Daniel’s One Ticket.

In this interview, SWAPS on the mix reveals his journey so far in the industry and is the next big thing.

Can you tell us about some producers that could have influenced your sound and the way you mix your music?

They are too numerous to mention. Every producer I have worked with has positively influenced my mix, I learn something new with each job. I see every job as a learning curve and this is part of what has helped my mix evolve over the years.

But I’ve done things with all the big names, including:

Dj coublon, Masterkraft, Krizbeatz, Young John Sagzzy, Fioke, Tuzi, Blaise, Northboi, Cracker, Jaysynth, Tekno Miles, Don jazzy, Spellz, Altims, Sess, Del’B, Killertunes, Puffy Tee, Speeroachbeat, Gospelonthebeat, Fresh Vdm , Ozedikus, London, Blaq Jerzee, D’tunes, Pheelz Mr Producer. And so many other wonderful producers.

You are a top-notch Nigerian audio mixing and mastering engineer, how come your fans rarely see a photo of you anywhere, even on social media?

I love my privacy and prefer that my work and my skills speak for themselves. My face is not a requirement for validation.

I like to move freely without any extra attention and I love that my family also enjoys their privacy.

Sometimes I also like drama.

Like when I’m with this artist and the people who greet them treat me like no one else or, sometimes, ignore me.

I just laugh and enjoy it.

It happened again recently on August 1, 2020, I was with Orezi outside his house, some guys came to greet me and ignored me. They broke up with him and left when Orezi said “Changes”, the surprised guys came back, it was fun. I have come across people who talk about me without knowing that I was the Cross, I laugh and walk away.

In recent years, Afrobeats have really made their way into mainstream pop. What does it mean for you to know very well that your production has exponentially influenced that opportunity?

It means a lot, a lot. See the industry grow. It is an honor to know that when you tell the story of the Nigerian music industry, my name will be mentioned along with zeeno foster, sheyman, indomix, suka sound, the ones before me.

A feeling of joy and gratitude.
