In the context of attacks by suspected cultists and criminal elements, particularly fugitives and jailed criminals who escaped from two prison facilities in Benin and Oko, the Inspector General of Police has ordered the deployment of five (5) mobile police units in the Edo state.

This followed fears and uncertainties circulating in Edo and Delta states alleging that seven people have been killed in Edo state, while six people have been killed in Delta state in the past two days by suspected cultists. and other criminal elements.

A senior police officer he spoke to revealed that the five mobile police units were possibly drawn from units in the northwestern and mid-belt parts of the country.

The officer revealed that the IGP directive is that fugitive prisoners from prison facilities in Edo state must be detained.

It revealed that the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has committed to logistics and other necessary supports, including the provision of patrol vehicles to ensure that criminal elements are hunted down and arrested.
