The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the schedule and calendar of activities for the elections for governor of the states of Ekiti and Osun.
INEC head Professor Mahmood Yakubu said on Wednesday that elections in Ekiti state will take place on Saturday, June 18, while those in Osun state on July 16, 2022.
Speaking at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Yakubu said: “In accordance with our policy of announcing election dates in advance to allow for early and effective preparations by all involved, the Commission approved that the elections for governor of the state of Ekiti will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, while the elections for the governor of the state of Osun will be held a month later, on Saturday, July 16, 2022 ”, he added.
INEC had previously announced that it had removed 749 polling stations from inappropriate facilities.
The commission removed nine polling stations from sanctuaries and several others from religious houses, royal palaces and private properties.
At present, Nigeria has 176,846 full-fledged electoral units out of the initial 119,973 electoral units.
